  Chapter 1: There’ll be Some Changes Made

  The Hamiltonian was a gorgeous, stately, fully-restored, European-style hotel, a few blocks from the center of downtown. Elliot had asked Claire to meet him there for lunch and an afternoon surprise on an unusually warm, early March day. He was already seated when she stepped into the restaurant’s ornate entrance. As she stood framed by the salmon-colored entryway, he admired her lithe figure, not tall but nicely proportioned. She was dressed up, as befitted the restaurant, in a dark brown skirt, cream-colored blouse, and a short, tan jacket. Her feet were plainly visible through thin-strapped, medium-heeled, brown sandals. She had just the beginning hint of a tan.

  Her head cocked slightly to the side as she gave him that, “What are you up to?” look. Elliot’s brow, below thick, dark brown hair, rose ever so slightly as he gestured at a chair to the right of him, standing to hold it for her. As he sat back down to look at her, he could see the sparkle in her fetching blue eyes, framed by thin brows and enhanced by sable eyeliner.

  “I think you’ll find this an interesting day,“ he said non-committally. “It’s time I threw a surprise or two your way. You know - a sort of turn-about.”

  “For something I did?” her expression seemed to say. With a flip of her head, she tossed her highlighted, naturally dark blonde hair so that the straight bob flipped about, just above her shoulders.

  He lifted her manicured hand to his lips and very lightly kissed the back of it. Her nails on fingers and toes were medium length and a reddish-brown. Placing her hand back on the table, he abruptly changed the subject, as he often did. I swear, she thought, sometimes he makes our conversation jump around so much I feel I’m being interviewed, or too slow to follow him.

  “I’ve ordered for us already.” That was unusual in itself, she thought. Elliot was usually so sensitive to what she wanted. Lunch arrived almost immediately. It was a light fare, very good, though not unusual in a city noted for its pleasant dining.

  They looked quite the sophisticated young couple as they sat there talking casually through lunch. They’d arrived at this common point in their lives from vastly different directions. Claire had grown up in a broken home in a medium-sized city. Her arrogant, irresponsible father had left her mother and the children to fend for themselves, resulting in teenage years of poverty and rebellion for her. Her much older sister had taken her in when she was nineteen, and helped aim her in a better direction. That had led to a successful career as an IT professional and, perhaps more importantly, a chance for her life to cross paths with Elliot.

  Their first encounter had occurred when her mood was at its lowest, as she considered abandoning a pointless relationship with a crude man who didn’t deserve her. Elliot had boosted her up, restored her self-confidence, and supported her through the break-up, asking nothing in return. But something had, perhaps inevitably, developed anyway.

  Almost no one would have believed it from just meeting him, but Elliot was from a small town. His parents had provided a stable, loving, middle-class home in which the young Elliot was able to flourish. More importantly, they had gifted him with three groupings of extraordinary genes – one set that made him intellectually brilliant and a second set that gave him off-the-chart personal drive to succeed. The third set made him a
bit sexually kinky – or, if you prefer, he had a collection of fetishes and appetites for somewhat-to-pretty-unusual erotic play.

  And Claire loved that about him – more than she loved his urbane, cosmopolitan confidence and his evident career successes, the extent of which had only recently started to become clear to her.

  They shared a cheesecake dessert, drizzled with caramel and chocolate. He liked the idea of them both eating from the same plate, touching the same food with their forks. Afterwards, he led her to the elevator.

  “I have to get back to work,” she announced, pulling him away by the hand, obviously picking up on his joke.

  “No you don’t,” he responded, somewhat coldly. “You don’t work there anymore.”

  “Yeah, right.”

  “You no longer need to work at all. All the money you’ll ever need is now yours.”

  “Even if that were true, I’d need something to do.”

  “I am what you do.” He’d said that with a smile as he pulled her into the elevator whose doors had just slid open. Without allowing her to say anything, he continued.

  “I’ve arranged a special holiday for us. We’ll leave in a few hours, but you’ll know nothing about it, or where you’re going, until sometime after you get there.”

  “And just how do you plan to pull that off?”

  “You’ll see. It may be a bit frightening, but I’ve no doubt that you’ll find it a novel, stimulating, unforgettable experience. However, you’ll need to agree to go along with what I’m going to do with you - and to you - before we start or I’ll call the whole thing off. Agreed?”

  She was unnerved by him - that had never happened before. She was still hesitating as they stopped in front of the door to the hotel’s presidential suite.

  “Claire, I need your answer now.”

  “How can I agree to something when I don’t have a clue as to what you’re talking about? Besides, you’re scaring me.”

  He took her hand to lead her back toward the elevators. She refused to go.

  “Tell me what’s going on.”

  “You’ll see - if you give it a chance. Or maybe you won’t.” The last was mumbled. “What happened to that ‘watch me get crazy’ attitude of yours that I find so interesting? Is this a lack of self-confidence coming out? I’m beginning to suspect that you don’t trust me.”

  “Of course I trust you. We’ve been together for months, and I’ve seen how you are. You’re the most steadfast, reliable person I’ve ever known. But for heaven’s sake, Elliot, now you’re asking me to agree to something I know nothing about.”

  “True. But if I tell you about it beforehand, it’ll lose the delicious impact that comes from a little fear of the unknown.”

  “Assuming you’re not kidding about my job, I’ll go along with you, wherever you want to go, But I need to know what you’re planning to do to me.”

  “Your job is over; I fired you. After all, I own the company you work for.”

  “What?!” She hadn’t known.

  “I acquired it shortly after we first met. As for what I plan for you, I will do whatever I want – which I assure you will be sexually thrilling for both of us. Oh, and there will be a number of things that will be done to you and will happen to you. This is to be an adventure, a chance for your erotic nature to expand, after all.”

  Claire knew his sexual and erotic appetites in some detail, from the intimate desires they’d talked about over the course of their relationship. She knew him well enough to guess at some of the things he might have planned. Up to now, they existed in the world of fantasies. Did she dare let them become real? Could she stand her own personal regret at a lost opportunity for sexually-charged excitement if she didn’t give him his way with her?

  Her eyes hardened and the corner of her mouth curled into a faint sneer. “Okay, what the hell! Let’s see what great adventure you have in store for me. Take me wherever you want and do whatever you want to me. I give you my full agreement and put myself in your hands. But this better be good!”

  They entered the room. Three large suitcases sat in the corner. They looked brand new. A matching carry-on lay open on the dresser. Claire could see that it contained makeup and other toiletries, all apparently new. There was a king-sized bed visible through partially-opened, double doors. Picking her up, he took her into the bedroom and laid her on the bed.

  “Does this make me the after-dinner sweets?” she asked, her breathing coming slightly faster.

  “Not at the moment,” Elliot replied with a smile. “I need to get you ready for the adventure.” He reached for a tiny bottle on the nightstand.

  “What is that?”

  “You were wondering how I was going to take you somewhere and you not know where it was until you got there, right?”

  With hesitation and suspicion she answered in a long, drawn-out, “Yeeesss.”

  “Well, obviously, we can’t have you walking around in public sporting a blindfold. So I need an alternative to let me maintain this part of the mystery. Once I place a few of these drops in each eye, you won’t be able to see where we’re going.”

  “What?! Are you crazy? YOU’RE GOING TO BLIND ME?!”

  “Yes,” he answered straight-away. “But only for a short while. Once we’ve arrived and attended to a few things, I’ll drop in the antidote and your vision will be right back. Don’t worry, the antidote is foolproof.”

  “Ah … ah …” she stammered as he tipped back her head. He wasn’t really going to do this, was he? Even more, she wasn’t going to let him, was she?

  “Try to look up at the top of your head and hold still,” he said gently. To her own surprise, she did. He bent to look into her eyes as he positioned the dropper above her left eye. She didn’t move. His fingers held her eye open. Three drops went quickly into her eye.

  She blinked, and reached up to rub her eye, but before she could touch it, he had held open her other eye and the drops went in.

  “In just a few seconds, things will go black. Don’t be frightened. I’m here and I won’t let you come to any harm. And remember, this is only temporary.”

  She looked up at him, her face somewhat alarmed, her heart beating faster. This had to be a joke. She could still see, after all. Then, suddenly, her vision seemed to jump to the right, then, everything was black.

  “Jesus Christ!” she exclaimed, sitting up. “I can’t see anything! You’ve really blinded me!”

  “All part of the adventure you’ve just begun. Like I said, think of it as a high-tech, unobtrusive blindfold.” He kissed her gently on the forehead and held her. Her sightless eyes seemed to stare at the wall behind him.

  Once Elliot felt her heartbeat slow, and her breathing evened out, he stood her up beside the bed. Things happened quickly after that. He removed her clothes and dressed her in comfortable shorts, a tank top, and flat sandals. He combed her hair and touched-up her makeup. He put dark glasses on her and called for the bellboy.

  “Since you can’t see, you’ll have to hold my arm and listen as I guide you. “

  “I really don’t like this.”

  “Then you’re not yet in the right spirit. Take a chance on the adventure. You can’t do anything about it right now anyway. Drink in the experience. You’ll be amazed at how positively it can affect you.”

  “How long am I going to be blind?”

  “Until I restore your sight.” Seeing she was unsatisfied, he added, “Oh well, a few days.”

  “A FEW DAYS! Why so long?”

  “You’ll see. And there’s more to come in a few minutes.” There was a knock at the door just then.

  They followed the porter to a waiting limo. Claire clung tightly to his arm. As they drove off, isolated from the driver, he gave her further instructions.

  “Obviously, you can’t see where we’re going, but you may still hear it announced. So before we get to the airport, I’m going to block your hearing.”

  “Please no ...”

  “You’ll ha
ve no way of getting information except through touch. So you’ll have to phrase all your questions as yes-no. I’ll tap you once if the answer is yes, twice if it’s no. If I want to know how you feel, I’ll tap your forehead three times. Understand?”

  “No … don’t do this.”

  “Understand? Can you get with the program now?” He said, laughing. Although she seemed outwardly distressed, he knew her well enough to be certain that she was intrigued and aroused by what was happening.

  “Uh … okay. I understand you, but I don’t like being helpless. This better be good.” She tried to smile and then punched him playfully.

  I called that right, he thought.

  She felt a wet Q-tip enter first one ear, then the other. In moments, she could hear nothing at all. She panicked, reaching out wildly for him. She felt as though she were falling. He gripped her tightly as the limo pulled up to the Delta terminal.

  It took several minutes, but Claire finally composed herself, and he led her from the car into the terminal. She felt encased in a cocoon, as though she really wasn’t out in public at all. She knew the terminal was crowded with people, but she could neither see nor hear them. She gripped him tightly, both her arms wrapped around the hard, defined muscles of his left arm.
